Grievous bodily harm trial thrown out by Toowoomba court

The trial of a man accused of striking another man in Toowoomba’s CBD during Australia Day celebrations leaving him with serious facial injuries has been thrown out of court.
Michael Paul Karaitiana Kururangi, 35, had been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Benjamin Adams, 45, outside Gelatissimo on the corner of Ruthven and Margaret Sts about 10.30pm, January 26, 2018.
Adams had sustained facial fractures that night but Kururangi had pleaded not guilty to the charge, Toowoomba District Court heard.
However, on of the second day of the trial on Tuesday, Judge Dennis Lynch QC told the jury the defendant had no case to answer and that the jury of eight women and four men would not be required to hear any further evidence or consider a verdict.
