Failing to ‘follow up’ leaves Toowoomba man with huge fine
His solicitor told the court a common threat to the 45-year-old was he failed to follow up on things.

A 45-YEAR-OLD Toowoomba man’s failure to follow up on court matters has left him with a sizeable fine and driving disqualification.
Jason John Hutton had been pulled over by police while driving a car with New South Wales number plates on Logan St, Beenleigh, about midday, May 20, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.
Police checks found the car’s registration had expired the month before, leaving it uninsured as well, and that his driver’s licence had been disqualified by a NSW court from February 24 to August 21, police prosecutor Rowan Brewster-Webb told the court.
The 45-year-old had those charges transferred from Beenleigh to the Toowoomba court but failed to appear in court on the matters on October 10.
His solicitor Brad Skuse, of David Burns Lawyers, explained that a common thread to his client’s offending was his failure to follow up on matters.
He had turned up at court in Toowoomba but when security staff told him his name wasn’t on that day’s list he left instead of following up with the court registry to find out his court date, hence he had failed to appear in court, he said.
His client thought his car’s registration had been paid in NSW but, again, he had failed to follow up on that and he was driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle.
Hutton pleaded guilty to all charges.
“A lot of this has come about by you not following up on your obligations,” Magistrate Kay Ryan told him.
Ms Ryan fined Hutton $1800 and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for two years.
