A WOMAN found sitting behind the wheel of her car with the keys in the ignition was found to under the influence of drugs and has been ordered off the road for 12 months.
Claudia Gail Brown, 26, had initially been pulled over by police on Holberton St about 3pm, August 11, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.
Checks found her licence had been demerit point suspended that very day, police prosecutor Chris Willson said.
A week later she was found sitting in the driver’s seat of her car with the keys in the ignition on James St about midnight August 28.
Unsteady on her feet and slurring her words, she was taken to hospital where a sample of blood showed she had meth and restricted drugs in her system, Senior Constable Willson said.
She pleaded guilty to being in charge of a vehicle while under the influence of a drug and two counts of driving while demerit point suspended.
Her solicitor Kyna Morice, Legal Aid Queensland, told the court her client was a single mother who had been going through a stressful time.
On the second occasion her client had been trying to get away from people who were at her home but she accepted she shouldn’t have been driving, Ms Morice submitted.
Magistrate Kay Ryan fined her $900, disqualified her from driving for 12 months but ordered no conviction recorded.
