A MAN who drove his car into a power pole knocking out power to a Toowoomba suburb was breath tested at almost four times the legal limit.
When police arrived on scene in Greenwattle St about 1.10am, August 19, the car’s driver Aaron James Cooney was being treated by ambulance officers, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.
Police followed the ambulance to Toowoomba Hospital where a sample of blood was taken from the 39-year-old which returned a blood/alcohol reading of 0.193, police prosecutor Rowan Brewster-Webb told the court.
Cooney pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of liquor.
His solicitor Joe Millican told the court his client had that evening had a fight with his wife and had booked into a room at a hotel.
However, when he was cut off, hotel staff had asked him to leave and he had driven, he said.
Mr Millican said his client had already suffered some penalty as he had fractured ribs in the crash and his car was written off.
Magistrate Howard Osborne fined Cooney $1200 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
