A MAN driving his children to school in Toowoomba was found not only to be driving while disqualified but had tested positive for meth as well.

When pulled over driving his Toyota Landcruiser on a North Toowoomba street about 9am, January 28, Matthew Guy Peters had initially given his name as Michael Patrick Goodchild of the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

When police didn’t believe him, the 46-year-old came clean with his real name and gave his Emu Creek address.

When police checks found Peters’ driver's licence had been disqualified by Dalby Magistrates Court on December 1 for nine months, he told officers that was precisely why he had given them a false name, police prosecutor Jacquelyn Miller told the court.

A roadside drug test proved positive for meth, Sergeant Miller said.

Peters pleaded guilty.

His solicitor Andrew Wiseman said his client was a livestock accounts manager and had since the incident been travelling by bus to Toowoomba to see his children.

The night before this incident, his ex-wife had asked him to drive the children to school, and he had been too embarrassed to tell her his licence was disqualified, he said.

Peters was fined $1450 and disqualified from driving for two years and three months.
