A YOUNG in a car crash on a Toowoomba street had asked investigating police if they could have a cigarette only for a bag of amphetamine to fall from their tobacco pouch.

Brandon John Modrzynski, 22, and Jayme Elizabeth Duggan, 25, had been involved in a two car crash on Stenner St near Kmart on the afternoon of August 29, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Shaken, the pair asked a police officer if he could retrieve their tobacco pouch from the car but as he handed the pair the pouch he spotted the clip seal bag containing 0.32g of meth.

A police search found bong water splashed throughout the car from a bong on the floor and a used ice pipe, police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Bugden told the court.

Duggan pleaded guilty to possessing a dangerous drug and a drug utensil while Modrzynski pleaded guilty to the same offences as well as to driving without due care and attention.

He also pleaded guilty to unrelated matters including possessing 1.2g of cannabis, a pipe for smoking it and handheld grinder to chop up leaf when searched on July 19, as well as to damaging a wall and light switch at a house in Clermont which the couple had been renting in March and to driving unlicensed in Clermont on April 2.

Duty solicitor Phil Stainton told the court the couple was in a de facto relationship with three children living in Chinchilla and both had been diagnosed with depression and anxiety.

His clients had paid for the damage to the house in Clermont, he said.

Magistrate Howard Osborne fined Duggan $300 with no conviction recorded.

Modrzynski was fined a total $1950 with no conviction recorded on the criminal offences.
