A CANNABIS habit had become an expensive hobby for one Lockyer Valley man.
Brett Stephen Fletcher fronted Toowoomba Magistrates Court to plead guilty to two separate incidents of possessing the drug and to possessing drug related utensils.
The court heard police on patrol had come across the 39-year-old in a car parked at the side of the Warrego Highway.
A search of his vehicle had found a plastic bag inside which were three smaller clip seal bags each containing “green leafy material”, police prosecutor Narelle Lowe told the court.
The combined weight of the cannabis was 32.12g, she said.
Weeks later police had executed a search warrant at the defendant’s home where his mother had shown officers to her son’s bedroom.
Senior Constable Lowe said the bedroom had the strong smell of cannabis and police found 6g of cannabis, two used cannabis pipes and scissors which had the remnants of cannabis on them.
The self-represented Fletcher told the court he had just broken up with his partner and had returned to cannabis use but he said he was now “back on the straight and narrow”.
“I am sorry for what I’ve done,” he said.
Magistrate Howard Osborne convicted and fined Fletcher $900.
