A TOOWOOMBA man who has obtained the reputation as a prison Casanova for his liaisons with women while in custody has been released from the Toowoomba watch house.

Wade Anthony Bartz had been taken into custody for allegedly breaching his bail conditions on January 5.

Part of his bail conditions included the 47-year-old abstaining from using or possessing drugs or driving or being in charge of a motor vehicle.

He was allegedly caught driving on Hursley Road and a saliva test proved positive for cannabis, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Police were still awaiting a certificate of analysis, police prosecutor Chris Willson told the court.

Duty solicitor Phil Stainton said his client had spent seven days in custody and was due to go to trial next month.

His client was a disability pensioner who lived with his parents in Withcott and he had been granted Supreme Court bail in November, he said.

The 47-year-old didn’t fully appreciate the consequences of driving while on bail, he said.

Mr Stainton asked that his client be sentenced to the seven days he had already spent in custody.

Acting Magistrate Roger Stark took into account the time spent in custody and ordered no further penalty be imposed except that the conviction be recorded.

Bartz gained notoriety after it was reported he had sex with a prison psychologist while at the Lotus Glen jail in 1998 and for twice escaping prison for liaisons with a girlfriend in 2001.
