AN 86-YEAR-OLD Toowoomba woman who spent a week in the city’s watch house on charges arising from a neighbourhood dispute has appeared in court.
Maureen Patricia O’Leay Quinn, better known as Patsy, appeared briefly with her barrister Shane MacDonald and instructing solicitor Ryan McCullough, of MacDonald Law, before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on a total 19 charges.
She sat quietly as Mr MacDonald sought an adjournment so his client could have a mental health assessment done before her next appearance in court.
The octogenarian gained media attention when she was taken into custody in August on charges arising from a dispute with a neighbour.
She was accused of striking her 62-year-old male neighbour with a stick and then spitting at police who came to arrest her.
Though she had no criminal history, the 86-year-old spent a week in the watch house before she was eventually assessed by health authorities and then moved to a room at Toowoomba Hospital.
She has not as yet been required to enter pleas to the charges which include four counts of wilful damage, three counts of serious assault of a person over 60, trespassing, two counts of common assault, two counts of obstruct police, two of serious assault of police, and five counts of breach of bail.
Magistrate Graham Lee remanded Ms Quinn on bail and adjourned all matters for mention back in the same court on December 11.
