Young boy charged with multiple counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing

Police have caught up to a young boy linked to the theft of three vehicles in the past month, where offenders gained entry to homes and stole keys.

Officers from the Toowoomba Property Crime Unit have charged a 12-year-old boy with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and five of stealing arising from the theft of three vehicles.

The boy was linked to the thefts of a blue BMW 120i that was stolen from the Drayton Central Shopping Centre on December 6, a Mazda CX9 from a Ramsay Street address on November 17 and a 2016 Honda Civic from a Kearneys Spring address also on November 17.

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said each of the stealing offences related to fuel taken from service station to fill up those three stolen cars.

The boy was dealt with under provisions in the Youth Justice Act.
