Janelle-Lexus Rizzalli has been charged with unlawful wounding and breaching bail after she allegedly stabbed a man acquaintance in the neck with a pocket knife
Darling Downs Detective Acting Inspector Renee Garske said the 42-year-old man contacted emergency services shortly after the incident in Harristown, about 12.30 on Wednesday.
Paramedics were called to the scene and stabilised the man before he was transported to the Toowoomba Hospital in a serious, but stable condition, where he remains.
“His injuries are not life-threatening,” A/Insp Garske said.
After the initial inquiries, the 20-year-old woman handed herself in to the police and was held in custody overnight to face the Toowoomba Magistrates Court.
“This is not a domestic and family violence related matter,” A/Insp Garske said.
“They were known to each other as acquaintances.”
“These types of matters are very concerning for police, particularly with how they can escalate and being able to solve these matters is a priority for our investigators.”
Ms Rizzalli remained in the watch house and was not required in Toowoomba Magistrates Court when her matter was mentioned.
Duty lawyer Callum Wood, of McConnell and Saldumbide Lawyers, told the court he would seek a full police brief of evidence relating to the unlawful wounding charge and asked that the case be adjourned.
There would be no application for bail at this stage, he said.
Acting Magistrate Patricia Kirkman-Scroope directed the police brief of evidence be disclosed to the defence by February 22 and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on February 29 with Ms Rizzalli remanded in custody.
