What to do if you think a child is being abused

A 20-year-old woman charged with multiple child sex matters has had her case mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

The woman was not required to be in court on Wednesday, January 17, when her charges were mentioned but was represented by Skuse Graham Lawyers managing partner Claire Graham.

Ms Graham said her client lived in a town west of Toowoomba but was in regular contact with the legal firm’s office.

The 20-year-old woman is charged with three counts of carnal knowledge with or of children under 16 and four counts of indecent treatment of children under 16.

She has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to the charges and no particulars of the police allegations have been aired in court.

Ms Graham said she had sent a submission to the prosecution and had been told that submission was being considered.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Julia Wheaton told the court it was expected “a certain course would be taken” pertaining to the case and asked for an adjournment.

Magistrate Louise Shephard therefore enlarged the 20-year-old woman’s bail and adjourned the case for committal mention back in the same court on January 21.
