At time he was sentenced to three years in jail but was given immediate parole after the magistrate took into account the 54 days he had served in presentence custody and that he was suffering from cancer.

Police alleged that Bidgood had returned to offending soon after his release and had amassed about 19 charges.

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said the charges included stealing, receiving tainted property, obstructing police, assaulting police, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, failing to stop and acts intended to avoid lawful arrest.

Police alleged that officers went to a Toowoomba address on June 23 to arrest Mr Bidgood when he intentionally drove at an officer and hit them in the leg before fleeing the scene.

About the same time, the Department of Corrections cancelled his parole and he was arrested on a return to prison warrant on Monday evening.

Mr Bidgood’s matters were briefly mentioned in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday where they were adjourned to August 8.

He was remanded in custody with no application for bail.
