Toowoomba teen girl in custody following alleged gory Kmart assault of three

A teenager has been remanded in custody since she allegedly attacked three females while armed inside a Toowoomba shopping centre which allegedly caused a serious injury to a girl’s eye.

A teenage girl who allegedly attacked three females at a Toowoomba Kmart in August will remain in police custody while the serious assault case moves through the court system.

Police allege one of the victims suffered a serious injury to her eye during the public brawl at the Toowoomba Plaza on Friday, August 16.

During a committal hand-up at the Toowoomba Childrens Court on Thursday, October 24, solicitor Alysha Jacobsen conceded police had a strong case against her client.

“She is not going to enter any plea with respect to the charges today,” she said.

The age of the three alleged victims was not heard in court, nor were details of the alleged assaults.

The court heard police evidence included CCTV of the incident at Kmart, six police officers body-worn camera footage, scene of crimes photographs, medical and surgery records of victim’s injuries, Instagram messages, and more.

Following the alleged assault, police charged the teenager with causing grievous bodily to a female, unlawful assault of another female while armed with an ‘instrument’ causing bodily harm, and the assault of a third alleged victim with an ‘instrument’ which resulted in bodily harm.

The charges were handed up to the Childrens Court of Queensland on a date to be decided.

The court heard the teen’s case may go before a judge-only trial.

The girl was remanded in custody.

Her mother attended court in support.
