A Toowoomba retirement village worker has been charged with the rape of a 69-year-old woman resident.

The 58-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in custody before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with two counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

His solicitor Jag MacDonald said his client would contest the charges and asked that he be granted bail.

Police objected to bail and also sought a forensic test order for DNA to be taken from the man to which Mr MacDonald said his client consented.

Mr MacDonald said the case would take some time to go through the court system and asked that his client be granted bail with whatever conditions the court saw fit.

His client’s wife was in court supporting him and he had a Brisbane address away from Toowoomba at which to live while on remand, Mr MacDonald submitted.

No details of the allegations were aired in court.

Magistrate Kay Ryan granted the man bail on “very strict conditions” including wearing a tracking device at all times, residing at a Durack address given to the court, reporting to Inala police twice a week, not to go to any retirement village and having no contact with the complainant woman or prosecution witnesses.

Ms Ryan adjourned the case for committal mention back in the same court on June 30 and ordered a full brief of evidence be prepared by police.
