Toowoomba P-plater hit with $1919 fine, 6-month ban on day one of getting licence
A teenager’s time behind the wheel was short lived after the 17-year-old was allegedly caught driving 40km/h over the speed limit on a regional road.
Police have suspended a 17-year-old's licence just hours after he received his P-plates, allegedly catching him driving 47km/h over the speed limit hours after getting his provisional licence.
The driver was allegedly travelling 127km/h in an 80km/h zone on Preston Boundary Rd about 1.30pm on December 4 when police from Toowoomba Highway Patrol Unit pulled him over.
The P-plater can be heard in the officer’s body-worn camera admitting he only just got his provisional licence.
“I just got my P’s today, and I have made a grave mistake already,” he said to police.
The driver was hit with a whopping $1919 fine, he lost eight demerit points, and his licence was suspended for six months for the offence.
Police urge drivers to be more careful, even on rural and remote roads, and warn that officers could be conducting patrols anywhere at anytime.
