A 32-year-old man responsible for the flow of meth, ecstasy and cannabis onto Toowoomba’s streets has avoided having to serve any time behind bars.

In just the one month from December 12, 2018, that police had charged Joshua Robert McCosker with trafficking drugs, it was estimated he had pumped $26,400 worth of drugs through other street dealers.

McCosker was caught by police selling 3.5g of meth for $600 to a woman dealer who was onselling the drug.

When caught on January 20, 2019, the then 30-year-old Warwick resident was found with 7.88g of pure meth, well above the 2g schedule, 136g of cannabis, $8520 cash and items used in the drug trade such as a mobile phone, clip seal bags and digital scales, Toowoomba Supreme Court heard.

McCosker denied knowing the woman he had been dealing with and said the money was won on the pokies, Crown prosecutor Ellen Fletcher said.

McCosker pleaded guilty to trafficking meth, ecstasy and cannabis and associated drug offences.

His barrister Shane MacDonald said his client had ended up homeless and mixing with drug users after the breakdown of his 11 year marriage at a time when he had no criminal history.

Mr MacDonald said despite a traumatic childhood in which he had little contact with his parents, his client had been brought up by his grandmother and had lived a productive life until falling to drug addiction just a couple of years ago.

His client was now caring for his ailing 80-year-old grandmother, he said.

McCosker had since his arrest turned his life around, was in a new relationship and looked upon this one month of offending as having tainted his otherwise productive life, Mr MacDonald submitted.

Justice David Jackson sentenced McCosker to four years’ jail, wholly suspended for four years, and placed him on three years probation.
