Toowoomba court update: Bartholomew Dornbusch alleged attempted murder case of police officers

A Toowoomba court heard there has been progress in the case against an Oakey man charged with the attempted murder of two police officers.

A 45-year-old Oakey man charged with the attempted murder of police officers had his case progressed through the Toowoomba Magistrates Court a month after the alleged shocking incident at Meringandan.

Police allege Bartholomew Peter Dornbusch of ramming two officers who were attempting to remove him from a stolen truck at lunchtime on May 24.

It is alleged Mr Dornbusch fled the scene before crashing into another police vehicle at the Goombungee rubbish dump.

On Thursday, July 13, the Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told Mr Dornbusch’s case was scheduled for a pre-committal hearing mention – an integral step in proceedings before a court determines whether there is sufficient evidence for a matter to proceed to trial.

Following the crash, Senior Constable Steven Ingerson was placed in an induced coma after suffering multiple suspected fractures and internal bleeding.

Senior Constable Penberthy was transported to St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Toowoomba and was released later the same day.

Police allege Mr Dornbusch, his son Brock Aiden Dornbusch, and Michael Stephen Patch-Metzroth, stole the truck and a HiLux from TyreRight at Oakey.

Prior to the alleged hit and run of the officers, which was allegedly committed by Bartholomew Dornbusch, Brock, 19, was arrested alongside Metzroth, 28, when police spiked the tyres of the HiLux at Charlton.

They were charged with various offences including stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle and drug offences.

The court was told Brock was supposed to have a meeting with his lawyers, however it had to be rescheduled, creating a minor delay in his case.

The court was toldd as he was on a return to prison warrant, the young man remains in custody.

His matter will be mentioned next at court on July 20, however his father’s committal mention will be on August 31.

Bartholomew Peter Dornbusch was charged with a number of charges, including attempted murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, endangering the safety of a person in a vehicle with intent, dangerous operation, break and enter, wilful damage, evading police and possessing dangerous drugs.
