Teens attack King Vapealot storefront with axe, mattock

A store owner has come face-to-face with a group of violent teens armed with an axe and a mattock as they tried to smash their way into the shop in broad daylight.

King Vapealot attempted smash and grab

The last thing Kesorn Farquharson expected to see when she looked out her window on Sunday morning was a pair of shirtless thugs armed to the teeth and hacking away the front of her family’s business – King Vapealot.

Using an axe and a mattock, the masked boys take dozens of swings, before they realise they had no chance of gaining entry to the fortified business and flee empty-handed.

Co-owner Craig Farquharson said the incident frightened his wife.

“Our business is in an old corner store with a residence attached and we live here,” he said.

“We were in bed at about 7am on Sunday morning when we heard the banging so my wife got up to see what it was.

“She pulled back the front curtain and saw they were working at bashing a hole above the door handle.

“They yelled f*** you c*********’, gave the door a few spite hits with the mattock and axe and took off down the street.”

The incident was captured on the store’s extensive CCTV system, which included a doorbell camera positioned at eye level with the assailants.

The offenders fled in a RAV4 wagon that was reported stolen on January 24.

It was later recovered in Ipswich.

Mr Farquharson said the offenders had no fear and attacked the store in broad daylight.

“For a Sunday morning on a quiet street, it was out of control,” he said.

“We had some neighbours three doors down come out of their house to see what the noise was and they saw the vehicle drive off.”

“My wife was very upset afterwards.

“Who expects to open a curtain and see a pair of psychos swinging weapons at your door?”

Police are investigating the matter and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

“There was a woman in the driver’s seat filming it all,” Mr Farquharson said.

“It looked like there was a tall fella running the show, with the two little weeds doing the work,”

“There wasn’t much to them, a breeze would blow them over.”
