Teen walks away empty-handed after holding up servo with knife

A boy has learned the hard way that crime does not pay after he threatened a service station attendant with a large kitchen knife and demanded cash.

A boy charged with attempted armed robbery has been granted bail after an ill-fated holdup at a Dalby Service Station.

Police allege the 16-year-old Jandowae boy entered the Racecourse Star Service Station in Drayton Street shortly before 1pm on Friday and threatened a female attendant with a large kitchen knife.

Dalby Sergeant Shane Wockner said the woman refused to hand over any money so the boy left on foot.

Police arrested him at a home in Palmer Street and charged him with entering a premises with intent, attempted armed robbery and trespass.

He appeared before the Dalby Children’s Court on Saturday where he was granted to reappear in the same court on December 13.

In an unrelated matter, Dalby police arrested three boys aged 14, 15 and 16 who are alleged to have robbed a person in St George and taken a silver Isuzu MU-X on a joy ride across Southwest Queensland.

Police allege the trio vandalised the tuckshop at a St George school early Friday morning before stealing the 4WD from a home in Anne Street.

Officers tracked the teens to Dalby where they were arrested on Friday afternoon where they observed the wagon driving along Branch Creek Road before it entered a grassed area along Myall Creek on Amos Street and became bogged.

The three juvenile offenders fled on foot.

The Dalby boy, 15, a Roma boy, 14, and a Blackwater boy, 16 were all charged with multiple offences including Robbery and Unlawful use of a motor vehicle which had been committed at Roma, St George, Chinchilla and Dalby.

They appeared before the Dalby Children’s Court on Saturday and were remanded in custody to reappear before the same court on Monday.
