Police are treating a fire that damaged a St George house as suspicious.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said investigators had established a crime scene at the Victoria Street property shortly after 9pm on Wednesday.
It remains under guard and the police and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services investigation is ongoing.
Firefighters were called to the address about 8.45pm Tuesday after reports of a fire at the rear of the single-storey brick structure.
A QFES spokesman said the fire was out by the time the crews arrived but they did notice the strong smell of petrol inside the structure.
They ventilated the structure and conducted atmospheric testing to determine if it was safe before handing control of the scene to police.
The Chronicle understands the property has been vacant for several years.
