Despite being banned from Grand Central Shopping Centre, alleged pest and accused thief Shaun Michael David Pedersen continued to attend the complex, Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told.

Mr Pedersen was granted bail on three stealing charges and one public nuisance charge on Friday, August 24, however he was back in handcuffs by Monday.

After spending a night in the watch-house, Mr Pedersen appeared at court for three new charges – breaching his bail conditions.

Magistrate Louise Shephard expressed some confusion as to why police charged Mr Pedersen with public nuisance, despite the alleged behaviour involving sexual advances towards female workers.

“It is extremely concerning behaviour,” she said.

Ms Shephard said she granted the 42-year-old’s bail on Friday with a 12 month ban from the shopping centre as there was concern his alleged behaviour could escalate.

She expressed concern Mr Pedersen would not comply with his bail conditions, however the court was told there were mental health concerns and if granted bail, he would be taken straight to the hospital by watch-house officers.

Solicitor Alysha Jacobsen said Mr Pedersen made a mistake on Friday and thought he was allowed to attend the shopping centre.

Ms Shephard said the only reason why she would grant Mr Pedersen bail, was because he would be taken to hospital for an involuntary mental health assessment.

If released from hospital, he will live with his mother in Toowoomba.

Mr Pedersen’s case will next be mentioned in court on September, 26.
