Search and rescue operation comes to tragic end as couple missing near Croydon found dead

The bodies of two people have been found after they went missing while prospecting in a remote part of outback Queensland.

A search and rescue operation to locate a 65-year-old East Toowoomba man and a 69-year-old NSW woman has come to a tragic end after two bodies were recovered.

The man and woman were discovered close to where they were last seen at a caravan park located on Aldridge St Croydon.

Investigations reveal the pair left to go prospecting at Esmeralda Station on November 10.

They were reported missing after they failed to return to the caravan park on November 11.

Their vehicle, a white 2024 dual cab Toyota HiLux, was located on November 11, on Esmeralda Station near Rifle Creek Ridge with several personal items inside including mobile phones.

Police launched an extensive search and rescue operation started on Thursday that included Rescue 510, several mustering helicopters, QPS Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad officers on motorbikes and horseback and SES officers on foot with drone capabilities.

Sadly the man and woman were found dead about 5pm November 13 about 2.5km from where their car was parked

“Police conducted an extensive land and air search over the remote area which sadly resulted in locating the pair deceased,” Search and Rescue co-ordinator Sergeant Winfried Weiss said in a press release.
