A young mother who pleaded guilty to a raft of different crimes has been slapped with a fine after appearing in Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

The court was told the first crime that Toowoomba and Boggabilla woman Sandra Deanna McGrady committed was against a person known to her.

Police prosecutor Bettina Trenear said in November 2022, the 34-year-old stole a bag of clothes from a person known to her – along with their car.

Defence lawyer Hamish Chapman said an argument between the pair sparked the crime, and his client accepted she should have returned the property.

After being charged and released on bail, the mother of two failed to sign in at a police station on a number of occasions.

Ms Trenear said when Toowoomba police later raided a Jellicoe St home, McGrady confessed to having two glass pipes which she used to smoke methamphetamines.

After being charged McGrady again disregarded police directions and also failed to show up at court.

Magistrate Clare Kelly was going to order McGrady to carry out a community service order, but was told the mother may soon lose her licence.

McGrady was fined $800 after she pleaded guilty to stealing, unlawful use of a car, possessing used pipes, contravening the direction of police, failing to appear at court, and breaching her bail.

No conviction was recorded.
