A group of Toowoomba residents empanelled in the rape trial of a Darling Downs father accused of abusing his six-year-old child, have heard what alleged depraved horrors police say the vulnerable girl was subjected to.
The man, who cannot legally be named to protect the identity of the now teenager girl, pleaded not guilty to raping the child before the Toowoomba District Court on Monday morning, March 25.
He also pleaded not guilty to maintaining sexual contact with his young child.
How the allegations arose
The court heard police were made aware of the alleged sexual abuse because the little girl told education staff, who had pulled her aside to talk to her about recent behaviour.
She told police she was too scared to speak out because her dad threatened to hurt her mum, which the child witnessed on previous occasions, the court heard.
Court proceedings were closed to the public and media for most of the trial on day one, as the jury watched videos of the six-year-old recalling the alleged abuse during police interviews.
The alleged sexual abuse survivor was also called upon to give prerecorded evidence at the trial.
Highly distressing allegations of sexual abuse
During the course of the trial, which will run for consecutive days, police will put forward a case alleging the man sexually assaulted the young girl in a number of perverse ways, physically and mentally.
One form of the alleged abuse involved making the girl watch homemade pornographic videos of her parents, with police alleging the child’s mother did not know.
The court heard her mother will be a Crown witness in the trial, who police say corroborate her daughter’s version of events, as the woman and her friend stumbled upon the man’s secret sex-toy stash hidden in the ceiling of their home.
One of the items was a blow-up sex doll, which police allege he used man used while forcing the girl to watch.
The court heard while in the family home, the man forced painful sexual acts upon the child in various ways.
