Police are confident that two boys wanted for a spate of alleged violent robberies in Goondiwindi over the past week are now in custody.

The boys were arrested near Moree in northern NSW in the early hours of this morning after police spiked an allegedly stolen Volkswagen Touareg on the Newell Highway.

Goondiwindi Senior Sergeant Richard McIntosh said Darling Downs detectives travelled to Moree to speak with the teens, and start the extradition process.

The boys are alleged to have targeted eight Goondiwindi homes and businesses on Wednesday morning.

About 12.10am on June 14 the pair allegedly kicked in a door at a motel and threw a chair at a 44-year-old man before stealing his wallet, computer and a white Kia Sorento.

At about 1.52am, several offenders allegedly forced open a door at another motel and threatened the 77-year-old occupant, demanding his keys.

“A struggle occurred and during the struggle the offenders have hit the occupant in the head with a cooler bag that contained a glass jar,” Sergeant McIntosh said.

The offenders then went to the room next door where they also forced the door where they were confronted by the occupants and fled empty-handed.

At about 2am the offenders entered a caravan at a local caravan park and a struggle occurred with the occupant.

The offenders got a hold of the occupants’ keys but fled in the Kia Sorento when police arrived.

At about 2.15am offenders attempted to enter a Racecourse Rd home but left without stealing anything.

About five minutes later they forced the door of a local motel room and allegedly stole the keys to a Mazda CX5 and wallet.

The group has then allegedly stolen the vehicle and was used in several other offences in Goondiwindi and Boggabilla.

They are then alleged to have kicked in the door of another hotel room and stolen the key to a white VW Touareg and fled in the vehicle.

At about 4.20am the offenders forced a door of a motel room and entered and stole the victim’s car keys. The vehicle, a white Range Rover, was stolen.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle on Marshall St but it was last seen heading over the bridge towards Boggabilla.

The vehicle was located a short time later burnt out in Boggabilla.

NSW Police will also allege boys kicked in a hotel room door in Boggabilla and stole a phone before attempting to enter the Shell service station.

The boys are also alleged to have been involved in a spate of break-ins early Sunday morning that include bashing a 57-year-old man over head with a torch after he caught them in his home.

A Dodge Ram utility that the boys are alleged to have stolen was later burnt out at Boggabilla.

Police have recovered the Kia Sorento but are yet to formally change the boys.

They are due to face the Moree Local Court later today.
