An Oakey father who spent a night in the Toowoomba watch house for domestic violence offences has been released back into the community after pleading guilty to assaulting his now ex-partner.
The Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard Ryan Rodney Manteufel had a history of domestic violence and a DV order was in place when he assaulted the mother of his children on Saturday, April 13.
On Monday, April 15, the father of three boys, pleaded guilty to common assault and contravening a domestic violence order.
The court heard the 33-year-old man was living in a shed on an Oakey property he shared with the woman, however following the latest violent incident the pair were no longer together.
In 2020, the court heard Manteufel was placed on a four-month jail term, suspended for 18 months, after he assaulted the same woman, who was injured to the point stitches were required.
Police prosecutor Natalie Bugden said at the weekend an argument ensued about 8am on Saturday, after the woman woke Manteufel because she was having car trouble.
The woman was met with anger, yelling, and derogatory slurs.
Sergeant Bugden said Manteufel appeared to be on drugs and fell asleep mid-argument, and he left the property after flipping a table.
Manteufel returned to the property at midday, Sergeant Bugden said.
“(He) was displaying strange behaviour… (which included) burning items of property in a drum outside,” she said.
She said the woman, who called police earlier that morning, began filming Manteufel when another argument ensued, which resulted in him aggressively swiping away her phone and hitting her in the face.
The court heard the woman was in distress and had a swollen nose and lip which was assessed by Queensland Ambulance paramedics.
The court heard her shirt had been ripped open during the incident.
Manteufel was sentenced to a six-month jail term, suspended for 12 months.
