The upgrades come a day after Mr Doyle was allegedly arrested outside the Captains Mountain BP service station covered in the blood of Grant Peasley.

Police will allege that on Sunday about 8pm there was a disagreement between Mr Doyle and Mr Peasley at a Flamingo Road home at The Pines, about 80km west of Toowoomba.

It is further alleged that during this argument Mr Doyle attacked Mr Peasley with a katana-style sword striking him in the arm as he attempted to deflect an incoming blow.

This blow has severed Mr Peasley’s hand.

Police will further allege that Mr Doyle stuck Mr Peasley several times, leaving deep lacerations to his neck, shoulder and back.

Mr Doyle allegedly fled the scene and was located a short time later at a service station on Gore Highway, Captains Mountain, where he is alleged to have stolen a knife and bottle of water.

A witness described seeing Mr Doyle allegedly enter the store covered in blood before he stole a kitchen knife.

He allegedly left the store, sat on the ground near the highway and waited for police to arrive.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said Mr Doyle cooperated with the arresting officers.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, he will face charges of robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and going armed to cause fear.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics rushed the man to the Millmerran Hospital where he was transferred to a rescue helicopter and flown to the Toowoomba Hospital.

He remains in a critical condition at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Mr Doyle’s matters were briefly mentioned in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He was not required to enter a plea and his solicitor Alysha Jacobsen, of Bouchier Khan Lawyers, told the court she had been informed that further charges were expected to be laid and asked her client be remanded over to Wednesday.

Ms Jacobsen said there would be no application for bail.

Magistrate Louise Shephard therefore remanded Mr Doyle in custody and adjourned the case for committal mention back in the same court on Wednesday.
