Brad Ireland knew thieves had been casing homes near his Darling Heights home in the past few months so every night he made sure his place was locked up tight.

“But obviously that wasn’t enough,” he said.

Sometime between midnight at 4am on Wednesday an unknown group of thieves jimmied open the sliding door and entered Mr Ireland’s kitchen.

They walked past a set of Mazda keys laying on a coffee table and instead rifled through Mr Ireland’s work bag.

In it they found his wallet and keys to his Audi A6.

“I got up at 4.30am and noticed someone had gone through my bag,” Mr Ireland said.

“I stepped outside and low and behold the Audi was gone so I got straight on to the police.”

The break in has Mr Ireland spooked.

Already he has changed his locks and is looking to install CCTV cameras.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the vehicle has been observed multiple times across the city.

This included driving at speed near some shops in Newtown.

There have been multiple reports of the occupants offering strangers rides “in a stolen car” the spokeswoman said.

Anyone who observes the suspicious 2010 Audi A6 (Rego 591MCZ) should phone the Toowoomba Police Station on 4631 6333, Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
