Police investigating after girl bashed at Grand Central Shopping Centre

Video filmed by a witness shows pools of blood left after a trio of girls set upon their victim, kicking her in the ribs and stomping on her head in a frightening daylight attack.

Young girl bashed at Grand Central Shopping Centre, Toowoomba.

A Grand Central Shopping Centre spokeswoman has responded to concerns about safety at the complex after a young girl was brutally bashed and left bloody on Sunday afternoon.

“As this is an ongoing police investigation, it would be inappropriate to share further details at this time,” she said.

“Please be assured we are taking this situation very seriously and working closely with police to provide assistance.

Witnesses said they saw a young girl sitting at the Schnitz restaurant when she was set upon by three other girls who pushed her to the ground and repeatedly kicked her in the ribs and stomped on her head.

“There was blood coming from her nose and mouth,” a witness said.

Video captured by a witness showed small pools of blood on the shopping centre tiles.

The Grand Central Shopping Centre spokeswoman said the safety and wellbeing of the community was management’s overriding concern.

“Grand Central is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week by our dedicated security team, as well as an extensive CCTV network, and these measures are further bolstered by our close work with local Police,” she said.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said police were called to the incident near the corner of Margaret and Victoria streets about 2.15pm on Sunday.

No arrests have been made but police have identified several suspects.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics transported the girl to the Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.
