Police have levelled fresh charges against two males, aged 16 and 18, who are alleged to have targeted senior citizens during a spate of violent robberies.
The young men are alleged to have forced entry to a Mt Lofty home at about 4.30am on Monday where they were confronted by a 92-year-old man.
Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said police will allege one of the males pointed a knife at the elderly man’s throat and demanded keys to his vehicle.
“The alleged offenders stole car keys from the address which were dropped after another occupant of the house chased them from the dwelling,” he said.
“The 92-year-old male was physically unhurt but shaken by the incident.”
Police arrested the males on Tuesday and they have been held in custody ahead of a bail hearing in the Toowoomba Magistrates and Childrens Courts today.
Since their arrest police have linked the males to a second home invasion that occurred early Monday morning at Kearneys Spring.
“Police will allege that two offenders broke into her home and threatened that they would not hurt her if she gave them the keys to her car,” Snr Sgt McCusker said.
“The victim complied with this request and the offenders stole her 2016 BMW vehicle.
“The vehicle was later recovered in a unit complex on Monday afternoon.”
The males are now facing dozens of charges including two counts each of armed robbery.
The elder of the two is further charged with nine burglary-type offences, six counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of stealing.
