SHIFTING his car to avoid a potential traffic ticket proved costly for a 20-year-old Toowoomba man fined $1200 for high-range drink-driving.
Luke Benjamin Daley had been drinking with friends at a party in Brisbane on June 5 when someone told him his car was parked in a spot that could see him fined, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.
While reversing his car to move it across the street, he crashed into another parked vehicle, and when police arrived Daley blew a breath/alcohol reading of 0.203, police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Bugden told the court.
Daley pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of liquor.
His solicitor Alysha Jacobsen told the court her client had since sorted out damage to the other vehicle through his insurance.
Daley was employed and had completed the QTOP (Queensland Traffic Offenders Program), she said.
Magistrate Louise Shephard fined Daley $1200.
She also disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for eight months.
