Unwelcome sexual advances from her male passenger was to blame for a single car crash that led to a Toowoomba mother of three pleading guilty to drink-driving.

Krystal Reynolds, then 21, was found to have been the driver of a car which crashed into an embankment on North St, Toowoomba, about 6.15pm, November 14, 2023, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

She ultimately blew a breath/alcohol reading of 0.136 and checks found she was SPER suspended, having never held a driver’s licence in Queensland, police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Bugden told the court on January 19, 2024.

Reynolds, who turns 22 on January 20, 2024, pleaded guilty to driving over the middle but not over the high alcohol limit and to unlicensed driving.

Her solicitor Michael Corbin said his client’s children were in the care of others and at the time of the incident she had been homeless and her male passenger had promised her a place to stay.

He said when police spoke to her at the scene Ms Reynolds’ clothes were dishevelled and she claimed her passenger had “tried to take advantage of her” as she drove, leading to the crash, he said.

The man in question had fled the scene after the crash, Mr Corbin said.

Magistrate Louise Shephard noted the breath/alcohol reading but also the explanation given for the crash and fined Reynolds $1000 and disqualified her from driving for a total six months.
