Kade Peter Warren fronts Toowoomba Magistrates Court for drug possession, public nuisance, obstructing police

A Toowoomba teenager caught on CCTV involved in multiple altercations on a night out, claimed he was only play wrestling with a mate, but grabbing an officer’s collar during his arrest was only the start of his problems.

A night on the town ended in the watch-house for a Toowoomba teenager after he was arrested for wrestling in the CBD with a friend, before police found cocaine and a knife in his possession.

Kade Peter Warren was out drinking when about 3.30am on July 24, 2022 when police were called to a large disturbance on Margaret Street, Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told on Tuesday.

As the large group were being separated, police saw the 18-year-old in a physical altercation with another person, with the pair separated and told to move on, police prosecutor Anita Page said.

Some time later for a second time CitySafe camera operators saw Warren and another person in a disturbance, but when police arrived Warren claimed the pair were friends.

After being warned that any further disturbance would result in a public nuisance charge, the court was told Warren walked towards the Cube Hotel, but a short time later CitySafe camera operators alerted police and security to an altercation involving Warren.

Police then arrested Warren, however Ms Page said he refused numerous warnings and instructions to enter the rear of a police vehicle, kicking at the paddy wagon’s door and grabbing at an officer’s collar in an attempt to drag them into the rear of the vehicle.

Warren was taken to Toowoomba Watch House, where a search of his belongings uncovered 0.7g of cocaine and a pocket knife.

On Tuesday Warren pleaded guilty to commit public nuisance in the vicinity of licensed premises, obstruct police, possession dangerous drugs and a knife in a public place.

Warren’s solicitor Alysha Jacobsen told the court her client was working at a Millmerran feedlot, and had forgot the knife was in his jeans after finishing work.

Ms Jacobsen told the court her client had “learnt a valuable lesson” and conceded that he was highly intoxicated at the time of the incident, but submitted that he was fooling around with friends before things got out of hand.

Magistrate Clare Kelly fined Warren $600 with no conviction recorded.
