Owning up for cannabis found during a police search of a friend’s house may have led to a Toowoomba man facing even further drug charges.

Police called to an incident at a Wilsonton residence about 8pm, June 10, had spotted a clip seal bag of “green leafy material” in plain sight on top of a fridge, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

The cannabis weighed in at 31.1g but both occupants of the house denied ownership of the drug.

However, Joshua Andrew Bauer five days later had gone to police and admitted ownership of the cannabis, telling officers he took the bag to the house but forgot it and left it on the fridge when he left.

Police prosecutor Cameron Francis told the court police had three days later searched Bauer’s residence and in his bedroom found three clip seal bags containing a total 67g of cannabis, two brass cones and a pipe for smoking the drug.

Police also found 1.4g of crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine, he said.

He again admitted ownership of all items, telling police the drug was for his own personal use, Mr Francis said.

Bauer, 36, pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils.

His solicitor Nathan Bouchier, of Bouchier Khan Lawyers, told the court but for his client’s admissions he might not have been charged with the first possession offence which may well have led to the search of his property days later.

His client had no previous offences of drug possession although he had several drug driving matters.

However, Bauer realised he had issues with drugs and intended seeking counselling.

Magistrate Graham Lee ordered the convictions not be recorded and fined Bauer $1500.
