Gatton service station owner fed up with vandalism with latest incident to cost thousands

Video captured by the service station’s CCTV cameras shows the offenders reverse into a bowser before speeding off along a one-way street, leaving behind a $4000 repair bill.

Alleged Gatton Petroleum hit and run

Gatton Petroleum owner Peter O’Brien is fed up with thugs that smash his property, leaving hefty repair and clean up expenses.

The attacks have become increasingly brazen with offending seemingly undeterred by the business’ overt and extensive CCTV surveillance.

The latest incident occurred about 1am on Sunday in full view of Mr O’Brien’s cameras.

“They came in and got some fuel, then reversed directly into a bowser and drove up a one-way street,” he said.

“I am just cheesed off because we have a lot of vandalism around here.”

As an independent service station owner Mr O’Brien has been left with the bill which is expected to cost up to $4000.

The vandalism usually consists of customers kicking in doors, damaging signs and defacing the toilets and occurs after his staff have left for the night.

Mr O’Brien said it’s not uncommon to arrive at work and find someone has defecated in the urinals.

“Once a fortnight we have some form of vandalism but the police are very, very good.

“There has only been one in the past 20 years where the police haven’t been able to find the culprit.

“This is not the only servo where this is happening in the Lockyer Valley.”

The matter has been reported to police and anyone with information about it should phone Policelink 131 444.
