The eldest sister of Elizabeth Rose Struhs – the eight-year-old girl who police allege was murdered by her parents last week – has reached out for help as her family come to terms with the heartbreaking series of events.

Elizabeth died on January 7 and police will allege it was the result of her parents withholding lifesaving medication that was needed to treat her Type 1 diabetes.

“On Tuesday, January 11, our extended family were confronted by the news that has left us completely shattered and heartbroken,” Jayde Struhs said.

“No other family should have to hear or experience what we have had to endure in this past week.”

Parents Kerrie Elizabeth Struhs and Jason Richard Struhs have been remanded in custody and stand accused of murder, torture and failing to provide the necessities of life.

They are yet to enter a plea.

“Elizabeth Rose Struhs was taken from us far too soon, and a lifetime of memories that we never got to have with her was gone in a moment,” Jayde said.

“Her brave spirit in the face of medical adversity was inspiring.

“She was a bright light on all that met her.”

Elizabeth was one of eight children and whose world has been turned upside down by her death and their parents’ arrest.

She has two adult siblings and five young siblings, aged from 3 to 16 years.

Jayde said her extended family have surrounded her siblings in the love to protect their privacy as they face a difficult road ahead.

“With much ahead of us yet to be determined, we are resolute that our number one priority is the children,” she said.

“The responsibility of their future is something we have always fought to protect, and we will continue to do that for the rest of their lives.

Jayde has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise the money needed to give those five young children a fresh start.

“When the full-time guardianship is decided, I will dedicate all money raised to providing the ongoing care for my five youngest family members to ensure they remain in a safe, secure and loving home,” she said.

“We have been overwhelmed and genuinely touched by the love from the local community, friends and family who have reached out and asked what they can do to help.

“In whatever way you can, speak of Elizabeth often, help us keep her memory alive.”
