A young Toowoomba woman on a suspended jail term for taking part in a drug trafficking operation has put herself at risk of serving time behind bars after she was charged with a drug offence.

Amy Breeze was sentenced to a four year jail term, suspended for four years, in 2022 for trafficking meth with her former partner, and possessing a large quantity of the dangerous drug.

She was also placed on a two-year probation order and one day she spent in police custody was declared as time served.

The court was told the drug business was largely Breeze’s partners, however she facilitated a number of drug deals and procured customers over a four and a half month period ending in 2020.

The 29-year-old mother was brought back before the Toowoomba Supreme Court on Wednesday, July 17, for breaching her court order by committing a drug offence in early 2024.

Breeze was caught driving with meth in her system when Toowoomba police intercepted her car in February 2024.

When Breeze pleaded guilty before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court for the drug driving charge earlier in the year, she received a fine and a six month licence disqualification period.

Barrister Frank Martin said the mother relapsed into meth use three days before police intercepted her because she was stressed about her children wanting to self-place with their father.

The court heard the children’s father was not the co-accused involved in the former drug ring.

Mr Martin noted Breeze did not profit financially from the former drug trafficking business, rather she participated to feed her meth addiction.

He and Crown prosecutor Nicole Friedewald submitted it would be unjust to activate whole or part of the jail sentence.

Justice Sean Cooper said the breach was proved, however agreed it would be unjust to activate her sentence given the difference in the seriousness of the drug crimes, and the steps she had taken to rehabilitate herself.

Justice Cooper said the relapse into meth use seemed to be a one-off occasion, and noted often the path to recovery was not a linear one.

He extended the operational period of Breeze’s suspended jail term by four months, which pushed its expiry date to April 7, 2027.
