An 84-year-old man has died after he crashed into a power pole near the corner of Ramsay Street and Stenner Street in Middle Ridge.

Police and paramedics were called to the incident about 11.25am Wednesday after reports the man suffered a heart attack.

He crashed into a nearby pole and several bystanders rushed to provide first aid.

Sadly the man died a short time later.

The area remained closed to the public for several hours as firefighters and Ergon Energy workers made the scene safe.

Police will not launch an investigation as the man’s death was the result of the medical episode and not the crash.

In an unrelated matter, police had to close a section of the Highfields Road at Highfields after a three-vehicle crash injured two motorists about 11.30am.

The two patients were transported to the Toowoomba Hospital in stable conditions.
