A driver charged with crashing into a motorcyclist outside a Bridge Street hotel leaving the rider with serious life threatening injuries has had his case mentioned before Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

David William Holmes was not required to be in court for the brief mention of his case on Monday but his solicitor Chelsea Saldumbide, of McConnell and Saldumbide Lawyers, asked that her client’s appearance be excused and sought an adjournment of the matter.

Holmes, 51, is accused of leaving the scene of the crash outside the Gowrie Hotel in Newtown on the night of May 31.

Police claim his Ford utility and the motorcycle collided at the corner of Bridge and Edmund streets about 6.30pm that Monday evening with the rider thrown from his bike and sustaining serious injuries.

Police claim the 51-year-old didn’t hand himself into police until some days after the crash.

Holmes has not as yet been required to enter pleas to charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene of an incident and render assistance, and driving an unregistered vehicle, each charge arising from the alleged incident.

Magistrate Kay Ryan remanded Holmes on bail and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on January 17.
