Darryl Phillip Anderson, member alleged Charleville family drug syndicate, applies for bail in Toowoomba Supreme Court

A member of an alleged ‘long standing drug distribution syndicate’ in South West Queensland has sought to return to the community.

The father of a family connected to an alleged drug syndicate that police believe spans more than 10 years has sought bail.

Charleville dad Darryl Phillip Anderson applied for bail in Toowoomba Supreme Court on Friday, five months after he was arrested in connection to alleged major methamphetamine and cannabis bust in South West Queensland.

In July, Operation Victor Custody, conducted by the Charleville police, uncovered what police described as an alleged “long standing drug distribution syndicate” in the region.

Five people were arrested in connection to an alleged 67 crimes including Mr Anderson’s wife Glenda Maree Anderson and daughter Rosalea June Anderson.

At the time of the arrests, Senior Sergeant Noel Jones of Charleville police said the alleged syndicate had been operating for more than 10 years.

On Friday, solicitor Claire Graham of Skuse Graham Criminal Lawyers brought a case for bail with strict reporting and residential conditions.

Crown prosecutor Abby Kong requested a further condition that Mr Anderson be banned from contacting his wife and daughter.

“I appreciate the (alleged) co-offenders are his wife of many years and his daughter … but Queensland Police Services have indicated a desire for that to be in place given that this offending is alleged to have occurred from the family home with his family as his co-offenders,” she said.

Ms Graham advised Mrs Anderson was the main caretaker for her husband and a no-contact order for the pair would create significant difficulties.

“This is a matter that is going to take considerable time to resolve,” she said.

“To impose a condition which would prohibit contact with his wife of some 40-odd years, who is ordinarily his carer, would be more onerous than it ought to be.

“There’s already quite considerable conditions being proposed in relation to my client living and residing in a very small town with very frequent contact with police.”

Justice Thomas Bradley KC granted bail on the condition Mr Anderson cease contact with his daughter and co-accused Ms Anderson.

Glenda Maree Anderson has been charged with three counts of supplying dangerous drugs, two counts of trafficking in dangerous drugs, two of supplying dangerous drugs, two of receiving or possessing property obtained from trafficking or supplying, possessing anything for use in the commission of crime, possessing anything used in the commission of crime, and permitting use of place.

Rosalea June Anderson has been charged with 12 counts of receiving or possessing property obtained from trafficking or supplying dangerous drugs, three counts of supplying dangerous drugs to a minor, two counts of trafficking in dangerous drugs, possessing anything for use in the commission of a crime, and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

He stands charged with 13 counts of receiving or possessing tainted property obtained from trafficking or supplying dangerous drugs, four counts of possessing dangerous drugs, three counts of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime, two counts of trafficking dangerous drugs, one of unlawful possession of a weapon and permitting use of place.

Mrs Anderson is additionally expected to make an application for bail in the near future.
