Crystal Sky Cumming’s texts to a police target nabs her for drug supply

The 27-year-old’s text messages hinted at supplying meth to others in the community. Here’s how the police brought her down.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to twice supplying meth arising from text messages found on a man’s phone.

A Toowoomba woman who pleaded guilty to supplying methylamphetamine though the prosecution conceded there was no proof the deals were completed has been handed a jail term and probation.

Crystal Sky Cumming was detected by police targeting another person in 2019, Toowoomba District Court heard.

Messages from Cumming were found on the target man’s phone and both texts purported to suggest separate supplies of methylamphetamine, prosecutor Abby Kong said.

However, Ms Kong told the court yesterday the supply charges had arisen from acts preparatory to supplying the drug and that there was no evidence either transaction had been completed.

Cumming, 27, pleaded guilty to two counts of supplying meth to another, one on January 10, 2019, the other on March 6, 2019.

On both occasions the amount of drug referred to was small, the court heard.

Ms Kong told the court Cumming had previous convictions for drug offences including two counts of supplying.

Cumming’s barrister Wes Seewald told the court his client’s plea was a late plea but a plea of guilty nonetheless.

Mr Seewald provided a consultant psychiatrist’s report on his client to the court which told of her upbringing and background.

Having read the report, Judge Ian Dearden remarked Cumming had endured “difficulties and struggles” in her life dating back to her childhood.

It was important that Cumming received ongoing counselling to help her rehabilitate, Judge Dearden said.

“What I’m proposing today is to give you an opportunity,” Judge Dearden told her.

Cumming was sentenced to six months in jail, the whole term suspended immediately for two years, and two years probation.
