A 25-year-old man has paid a high price for a night out at a Toowoomba pub where he punched a bouncer and then a hotel window.

Corey Francis Short had been out with friends at The Spotted Cow Hotel on the night of February 27 when he became abusive toward hotel staff.

Eventually asked to leave, he turned to a security officer saying “Let’s go outside and punch on, don’t be a **** and a coward”, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Escorted off the premises, he had turned on the security officer outside and punched him three times to the face, police prosecutor Leea Trewin said.

The 25-year-old had then punched a window “about seven times”, smashing it and cutting his arm, the court heard.

Senior Constable Trewin said police called an ambulance to the watch house and Short was taken to Toowoomba Hospital for treatment.

He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage.

His solicitor Brad Skuse, of Skuse Graham Lawyers, told the court his client’s employer had provided a reference to the court in which it was stated the incident was out of character for him.

The qualified carpenter was working as a roofer for a company and travelled for work to anywhere from Brisbane to Rockhampton, he said.

Short was “remorseful and disappointed” by his behaviour that night, Mr Skuse submitted.

As a result of the incident Short was subject to a hotel banning order, the court heard.

Acting Magistrate Lisa O’Neill convicted and fined Short $1800.
