Cody Ryan Edmondstone pleads guilty to drink-driving while disqualified

The 19-year-old not only blew over the legal limit but he was driving while disqualified as well. See how the court dealt with him.

A third of drink and drug driving offenders come from these two professions

A decision to carry on drinking downtown proved a huge mistake for a Toowoomba teenager ordered off the road for more than two years.

Cody Ryan Edmondstone was seen getting out of a dual cab ute finishing off a drink in the Neil Street car park about 2.10pm, September 9, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

The 19-year-old initially denied to police that he had been driving but the car park’s CCTV cameras caught him alighting from the ute after reversing it into park, police prosecutor Rohan Brewster-Webb told the court.

He blew a breath/alcohol reading of 0.127 and checks of his driving record found he had been disqualified from driving by the same court on a previous drink-driving and unlicensed driving offence, Mr Brewster-Webb said.

Edmondstone pleaded guilty to both driving offences.

His solicitor Brad Skuse, of Skuse Graham Lawyers, told the court the teenager had been drinking earlier at a friend’s place but had made the poor decision to drive to the CBD to continue drinking at a hotel.

Edmondstone was working and could pay a fine, he said.

Magistrate Louise Shephard fined Edmondstone $1400 and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for two years and three months.
