Christopher William John Pattel fined in Toowoomba Magistrates Court for stealing crate of bread police found in his freezer

A Toowoomba man, who was caught on camera with an accomplice making off with two crates of bread from a service station, has been fined and ordered to pay restitution after police found the items stashed in his freezer.

Christopher William John Pattel appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to unauthorised dealing with shop goods.

The court was told the 27-year-old and an unknown accomplice were caught on CCTV cameras at BP Oakey about 3.25am on March 31, 2022.

Pattel, who was on a pushbike, watched as his partner in crime loaded two crates of bread, a total of 24 loaves, onto a scooter before the pair fled the scene.

Police caught up to Pattel who was toast after $88.80 worth of bread was found stashed in his freezer.

Magistrate Clare Kelly fined Pattel $100, and ordered he pay restitution to BP Oakey. The fines were referred to the State Penalties Enforcement Registry, with no conviction recorded.
