Christopher John Wayne Armstrong escapee police custody

Officers from the Tactical Crime Squad were called in to track a man who escaped from police custody after assaulting his mum.

How do juries decide a verdict?

Oakey man Christopher John Wayne Armstrong has been ordered to serve 18 months on probation to address his anger issues after he assaulted his mum and fled from police custody.

On Thursday, the Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard Armstrong’s mum arrived home on November 20 to find the father of two in her house.

Police Prosecutor Leea Trewin told the court the pair started arguing when Armstrong stood up against his mum, yelling in her face.

There was a minor scuffle that ended with Armstrong pushing his mum over and causing minor injuries after she fell on a trundle bed.

Armstrong was later involved in another incident that led to police issuing a warrant for his arrest.

The court heard he was picked up by police on Monday.

Senior Constable Leea Trewin told the court that Armstrong was due to be transported from the Oakey Police Station to the Toowoomba Watch House when he broke free of his escort.

“He has run from police, through a walkway at the Oakey Courthouse, he has jumped over the courthouse fence and run along Campbell Street,” he said

“He was no longer in view and patrols were conducted but he was unable to be located.”

The court heard Armstrong remained at large until he was arrested by officers from the Toowoomba Tactical Crime Squad on Wednesday, January 4 and held in custody overnight.

He pleaded guilty to four offences including obstructing police and common assault and was sentenced to 18 month probation.
