Beau James Watts’ family were hatching ideas for his 21st birthday party but are now planning his funeral after he was killed in a two-vehicle crash at Pittsworth.

The 20-year-old Darling Downs man was travelling on his motorcycle west on Lochaber Road about 11.55am on Tuesday when he collided with the side of a Holden Commodore travelling in the same direction.

Sadly he died at the scene.

Beau’s mum Kelly Bronson paid tribute to her young boy who she said had big plans for his future.

“Beau was a very loving, gentle giant, I only came up to his chest,” she said.

“He was very close to his sister and he loved everybody he came into contact with.

“He wanted to work in aged care because he wanted to look after people.”

Beau was born in Toowoomba but lived his whole life in Pittsworth, attending the local state primary and secondary state school.

Beau James Watts was only a few months off his 21st birthday when he was killed in a two-vehicle crash at Pittsworth on August 15.

He practised judo, played cricket and was an avid gamer as well as set to travel to the US with his father.

Ms Bronson said Beau loved riding quad bikes as a young boy and graduated to a two-wheeler about two years ago.

“He was always very careful on his bike,” she said.

“When the police told me what happened, I could not believe it.

“I feel like it is a bad dream, all I could keep saying was ‘Is this really happening’ but now instead of planning his 21st we have to plan his funeral.”

“Beau was a very gentle, loving and compassionate person who was just about to start the next stage of his life.”

The driver of the second vehicle, a 68-year-old Pittsworth man, was taken to hospital and treated for shock.

Ms Bronson said she hoped he recovered soon

“My sympathies go to the driver of the car as well,” she said.

Beau leaves behind two older sisters, and his parents.

His funeral will be held at Pittsworth’s St Andrew’s Anglican Church at a date to be set.

The initial police report states that the Holden was turning right at about the same time that Beau was attempting to overtake it and he has collided with the a rear passenger door.

Darling Downs Country Patrol Inspector Danny Shaw said it was a timely reminder to drive with care.

“We ask people to drive to the road conditions and be very cautious when overtaking as vehicles often change direction and you can end up with severe consequences,” he said.

“This was a very unfortunate crash but as we know, motorcycles are very unforgiving on the body”

Anyone with information about the crash, including dashcam footage of the moments leading up to it, should phone Policelink on 131 444.
