Bartholomew Peter Dornbusch charged with two counts of attempted murder of police

Bartholomew Peter Dornbusch is charged with attempting to murder two police officers by running them over in a stolen truck. Here’s what happened in court.

Lawyers for the man accused of attempting to murder two police officers are still waiting on investigators to provide statements, but they are moving forward on building a case.

Bartholomew Peter Dornbusch had his matter briefly mentioned in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday where Jag MacDonald, of MacDonald Law, asked for a brief adjournment.

“We have received a brief, but there are two statements that are left to be disclosed,” he said.

“However they won’t hold the matter up.

“Everything else has been given to David Jones KC, we are just waiting for his advice.”

Mr Dornbusch is charged two counts of attempted murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, endangering the safety of a person in a vehicle with intent, and a range of other unrelated matters which include possessing dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of weapons, burglary, fraud, stealing, receiving, and drug driving.

Police allege he was in control of a stolen Hino Series 300 truck and that he drove the vehicle at two police officers who were attempting to arrest him at Meringandan West, on May 24.

One officer, Senior Constable Steven Ingerson, was allegedly pinned between the truck and an unmarked police vehicle.

He was placed in an induced coma after suffering multiple suspected fractures and internal bleeding.

Senior Constable Mark Penberthy suffered minor injuries and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in Toowoomba.

He was released later that same day.

Police further allege that Mr Dornbusch led officers on a pursuit that ended at the Goombungee rubbish dump, where he is alleged to have rammed two police vehicles.

Mr Dornbusch has been in custody since his arrest and is yet to enter a plea to the charges.
