Toowoomba’s University of Southern Queensland, UniSQ ranked in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings

Toowoomba university students and staff have plenty to celebrate after the University of Southern Queensland jumped more than 200 spots in a prestigious global analysis study. See where the institution ranks at a state, national and global level here.

Toowoomba’s University of Southern Queensland has improved its international standing, moving up by more than 200 spots in an international ranking of tertiary institutions.

The 2024 release of the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings revealed UniSQ is now sitting in the 410th spot worldwide after ranking in the 651-700 range just last year.

It places the Toowoomba institution in the top 28 per cent, with UniSQ excelling in research and citations and performing high in international indicators, reflecting internationalisation and global reach.

“Our university is delivering world-class research, a broad education program, and meaningful engagement with communities, both domestically and internationally,” Vice-Chancellor Professor Geraldine Mackenzie said.

More than 1500 universities across 104 international locations were reviewed in the findings with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US ultimately placing first, followed by the University of Cambridge and Oxford in the UK.

The QS Top Universities 2024 rankings also revealed UniSQ falls in the top 30 Australian universities, sitting in the 24th position nationally.

Statewide, UniSQ has ranked fourth, falling only behind Brisbane campuses The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University in Nathan.

It comes after the Toowoomba institution also ranked in the top 301-350 bracket in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
