Queensland MP Robbie Skelton slammed for foul tweet about Griffith MP Max Chandler-Mather

An MP has come under fire for a vile tweet sent to a federal Greens member that among other things told him to “go and get stuffed”.

‘Utterly disgusting’: Greens and Coalition unite to reject Labor’s housing bill

A Queensland MP has been reprimanded by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk after using foul language targeted at a federal Greens member on social media.

Nicklin MP Robbie Skelton replied to a tweet from Greens federal member for Griffith Max Chandler-Mather, who called him “a stain on the blanket of humanity”, according to 9 News.

“Really, your (sic) a hyphenated name d--k. I’m a renter and I represent my electorate. I absolutely know how people feel … go and get stuffed you Tree torie p--ck … Sit yourself you upstart s--t,” the Labor MP also wrote on June 25.

The since-deleted tweet was in response to the federal Greens housing spokesman and his party’s housing policy.

Mr Skelton told 9 News that he probably should not have written what he did but was angry at the Greens housing policy.

He added that he believed the policy was making homelessness worse.

The Greens had alongside the Coalition successfully deferred voting on the federal government’s $10bn Housing Australia Future Fund until October.

Ms Palaszczuk slammed her colleague’s choice of words, stating it was inappropriate.

Ms Palaszczuk told reporters on Tuesday that she hoped all MPs would act with respect.

“People need to behave respectfully across all sides of politics and maybe you might ask those questions to (Queensland Deputy Opposition Leader) Jarrod Bleijie,” she said.

Mr Chandler-Mather tweeted on June 25 in a broad response to Mr Skelton’s criticism that “name calling and personal insults aren’t surprising from Labor”.

“It’s how’d you expect a party that ultimately serves the interests of property developers and banks would react to people demanding we cap rents or spend enough on public housing to house everyone,” he wrote on Twitter.

“But rest assured The Greens aren’t going to stop fighting for renters just because the PM makes some silly insults. That’s not pressure.

“Real pressure is choosing between paying the rent or feeding your kids. And that’s who the Greens are fighting for.”
